Add custom floor tile graphics

P
Peter Bengtsson

The aility to add ones own floor tiles is a basic feature missing from DA.

All that is needed is the ability to import a texture map to the floor object and to be able to set what category these tiles belongs to.

There is a new category under Objects : 'Abstract'.
To make custom tiles, we have the 'customisable plane' (1x1, can be enlarged to 3x3, and as large as you want if you disable collisions) and the 'large customisable plane' (2x2, can be enlarged to 6x6, and more without collisions).
It supports transparency in PNG images, but any pixel can only be fully transparent or fully opaque.
Things I wish they will add or fix regarding the abstract objects:
- ability to modify the aspect ratio of the object, in order to use non-square images
- supporting the full range of the PNG alpha channel for transparency (0-255) in order to have partially transparent objects (for smoke, shadow, etc.)
- ability to enlarge a plane above 6x6, so that we can add big rooms designed in other programs
- making the material matt, because a shiny rug or pit is really weird, and the reflection prevents seeing the object clearly (see picture)
- saving the custom tiles I have made (and all other abstract objects) to my list of objects, to not have to do it all again (finding the image and resizing the object).

Ok, I'm new here, but where do I actually access information on how to add these custom floor tile graphics? I can't find it in DA, I can't find a video tutorial on YouTube - where can I learn how to use this completed feature?

I'd rather have something that chromas more easily. Bright green (full #00ff00 color, for instance) would be very easy to grab in an image editing software to be able to layer/replace/delete/etc with whatever you want.

I think we need a wall panel in this color, a 1/2 wall hanging (top version and bottom version), and floor tiles.

It would be good to have black tiles and walls or be able to remove inner parts of the map where you don't want to have anything on it.
The problem with the black tiles and walls would be that they would be affected by light.

Occasionally, I want to add custom "flat" features to a floor. Examples for this would be, for example, carpets made for a rich merchant so that he has similar carpets in all rooms, or a Nobles' coat of arms as an inlay in his wooden floors, or – most importantly – teleport circles for a "West Marshes" – style campaign. So far, I have not found any way of adding these. As they are flat assets, they would not interfere with 3D rendering, but would have to be placed underneath 3D assets such as tables, chairs and similar.

It would be great if you could enable something like this.

The few rugs you have right now don't fit most places
