while this is something that has been resolved for the print option, is it something that can also be implemented in export to image options. I have a map that is 9 40x40 maps combined, and i'd like to make it into a 'super map' on VTT, but my photoshop skills are lacking :P

This could go into multi-level support, or export without borders or be its own standalone.
The ability to make buildings with ‘dead space’ in the middle as well as an option to save as a png to allow making tiles from maps.

I agree - but I see this as an option for you to pain "empty" space with a default colour or transparency
