Having a 3D export of the maps would be absolutely amazing, for using them on 3D table tops AND for 3D printing and using as actual physical maps in home games.
I understand that there is a lot of post processing that DA does having in mind the light moving of the trees, shadows, etc.

The devs have repeatedly said on the Discord that exporting the maps in 3D would not produce the expected result - the amount of post-processing that DA does to make the 2D versions look good would not translate across.
They have also said it would be easier to rebuild DA as a Virtual Tabletop instead - something they have no interest in doing.

I bought DA on Steam and I love using it.
However, I would love it even more if I could export 3d maps.
Have you seen 3D Canvas on Foundry? It's fantastic and it would pair perfectly with DA.
The ability to 3D export would be the ultimate feature that would drive me to actually use Dungeon Alchemist and recommend/gift it to my GM friends. I just fell down the hole of FoundryVTT + 3D Canvas. I've had Dungeon Alchemist since the Kickstarter and knew they had a "Foundry export", so I figured this was going to be the ultimate mapmaking and GM experience. Finding out it was just a top-down 2D video exporter was the biggest let down and sucker punch as a long-time backer of DA.
Please for all our sakes, getting to market first/early with a 3D export feature will spread like wildfire across the GM communities making DA the defacto 3D worldbuilding tool and all of us so much happier and appreciative of the (honestly) incredibly impressive product you have created!
i beg of you to make this happen somehow :D it would be a banger, really to be able to export what we create here in 3d and play it on another software would be better than simple 2d export :S
This is, far and away, the most important feature to add. Without it,. DA is largely a software toy to me. Yes, it can do some maps, but not as well as a competing program like DungeonDraft with FA assets.
With an 3d exporter? That is a COMPLETE GAME CHANGER. The nature of the software moves from "toy" to "mission critical".
I want to add my support to this. I have recently gotten my Tilt Five Kickstarter and having a 3d export I could get to pop out to the table in AR would be game changing.
adding a supporting voice to this; without 3d export this is just a fun pass-time activity and has absolutely no differentiator from other mapping tools. With 3d export, though, literally world changing.
Especially with the 3D Canvas module in Foundry VTT, it would be great if these could be exported. Like, really great, and would dramatically increase the value (and, I imagine, the exposure Dungeon Alchemist would get).
Agreed. And 3D Canvas is used by quite a few people, I believe. Unfortunately, DA believes it’s not used by many. I believe they are focusing on theripper93 patreon numbers, instead of Baileywiki patreon numbers (3DCanvas is included in a Baileywiki tier level as well since Baileywiki is pushing 3D now too).
It’s sad but funny that Patreon’s are pushing the 3D, but a company whose entire basis is 3D mapping can’t keep up with and leverage the Patreons. (And nattering negativity from certain DA users who heap on negativity since they don’t use FoundryVTT does not help.)
I guess the question boils down to… If DA is the dog, who is the tail? The nattering negativists who don’t use 3DCanvas FoundryVTT or the users pushing 3D in their games?
3D Canvas is a niche of a niche module with a perceived high bar to entry.
That said, the thing holding 3D back in Foundry VTT is the wide belief among GMs and DMs that there is no easy to use 3d map making tool.
Enter DA. DA is a tech demo toy in need of a real purpose. It's real purpose is what it is - a 3d fntasy battlemap maker. 3D canvas is also, in a large part, also a tech demo toy.
Add those two together, and what was niche becomes mainstream; what was a toy becomes a mission critical piece of software.
As far as 3D canvas goes, DA doesn't have to specifically support that. It only needs to export to Blender. After that, let 3D canvas (or others) figure out the rest.
For me, any export would be good, not necessarily to any specific program. DA is really great but none of my players will ever get to see anything other than a 2d map…
Creating a way to export the full 3D model of the map would be great! Especially if this could be exported to and uploaded to software like Tabletop Simulator!
I would love to have my players walk through the beautiful places I created in 3d. It feels like such a waste to build it and loose 90% of flair, function and visibility with the 2D export.
I think exporting as a GLTF ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GlTF ) set of assets (scenes, textures, hitboxes, etc.) would allow importing in *any* game engine (godot, unity, unreal...).
Wouldn't mind if it was developed as a paid feature, but if it was possible, it would be a real game changer 👌 (pun intended)
I need this for 3D Canvas module in Foundry. Honestly, DA should work with FoundryVTT and theripper93 to streamline a complete package between the 3 of them. All the pieces are there, just no one putting the jigsaw together.
How is this not a thing? I thought the "full 3D" was supposed to let us use it as full 3d not just view it in 3d. What's even the purpose of having everything in 3d if I can't use it in 3d?
I'll add an upvote to this with a caveat. I think the awesome folks at DA has looked at the product they want to build from the start and told everyone this is a AI powered mapping software. That is what makes them different and special. Once they are past the early access stage they will probably want to grow and expand the company. The most common way to do that is sell DLC and add-ons. Another way would be to create other tools to expand their line of products. Things like City, Kingdom, and Continent Alchemist, or their own Alchemist VTT. A separate VTT software, that would import their dungeons, cities, or worlds allowing them to work together and give DMs the online tabletop they want, possibly adding a subscription so they have continued monthly income. If their plan is to grow their company and to make the best bundle of software for the VTT space, then good for them, I wish them luck. If they are happy with the DLC add-on pack model, then understandable. If so, being able to use the 3D assets in another form would be great, and not merely the cool factor it is now. I know DA is taking steps with the first person view and such to make the 3D aspect more useful, and they are very busy tiring to make us, the supporters happy, but they have their limits and need to stay focused on their vision. I haven't used Foundry and don't have the need or room to 3D print my dungeons, but looking at videos of Foundry or TaleSpire especially, I can see a pairings like DA and TaleSpire or DA and TableTop Simulator working together as something many of the commenters are looking for. Also making the 3D files importable to something like TaleSpire which has a way to create your own assets, would "kill two birds with one development" pre-say. That's my long winded 2 cents.
Throwing in my support here! If I could set up scenes in this software and then export them that would be amazing for creating renders, especially since I could add my custom 3D characters or other models I have.
The level of detail provided to these 3d assets does them a disservice if they cannot be used as 3d elements. Your fanbase would skyrocket if you could do a similar port structure as heroforge does with stls being ported to something like tabletop simulator.
A 3D mapmaker LITERALLY serves no purpose if you can't export in 3D! Other than looking fancy while making it. I can't understand why this request is being ignored/not added to the roadmap. Right now it's probably the ONLY thing that would put DA above the other mapmaking software. Heads up, looking pretty while making the map isn't as important as the actual game play map looking pretty!!
I agree, personnaly if there was 3D export for fbx files on Dungeon Alchimist it can be the best software of medieval environnement concept, I know that Dungeon Alchemist is a software for classic rpg but personnaly that if maps of the software was in fbx or other good 3D model I can use it on blender for animations.
Uhh another fine map making tool - and again it looks even better than the last one I throw my money at :-) But that's great! I love spending money on great Apps! This will result (if enough other people think the same way) in more features and options one can delve into.
But i seems to see some kind of odd development here: it seems that (from a perspective of a fantasy RPG GM) that there is a nice development of tools that are getting more and more user friendly and visually overwhelming (like this gem) but on the other side 3D is getting a growing part of the cake. Yeah I am another one of those using 3D canvas on FoundryVTT. This is just amazing. I follow the development for several month there and I can tell, the guy there is dedicated! But I am also aware of other tools - also on Steam - that enable 3D maps. How wonderful would it be to export a map in some kind of digital format to use in another one. Not talking about 3D prints here - I think there is a pletora of Services to mix and make a dream of af scene and other services to even print whatever you throw at them. But having this all on your digital table where every player can explore the map (dungeon, building, city) on his own pace and only see what his char sees and all this in 3D - wow. That's something. I let my player just 2 weeks ago stroll through their first 3D map and they are still buffled what's all possible. Now it's on me off course to keep this level of entertainment up. Having DA at hand to take some of the preperation off my hand would be .... priceless.
So, this is my story and argument why I really, really vote for some kind of digital export ofthe 3D scenery in this constantly growing market.
I will keep an eye on the Alchemist and be ready to support as much as possible. Thank you.
any posability a OBJ or STL formatting or other file formatting export option could be made to be able to import maps into blender, DAZ or other 3d software. I see the awesome potential for this beyond DND map creation
I haven't actually purchased this software yet. Found it on steam and instantly thought "OMG I could use this for making backgrounds for animations in Unreal Engine! Or even use this for maps in a game! This could be amazing."
Instantly I was super disappointed and...confused honestly. Why such perfect 3D models...when the purpose is make a flat 2D map from a single angle?...Totally...confused.
But I'm still hopeful seeing as the program is in Early Access and can have these changes implemented.
My suggestion to the developers:
Make a "pro/commercial usage" license. Something that costs a little more but allows users to create maps for their commercial games or animations or other creative works. This way people could use your awesome program to make a map for a video game or something, and no legal issues will arise from it. Perhaps even make the export feature ONLY available in the "commercial usage" version. (For your own protection.) There are other options as well, just go the "Unreal Engine" route, where people have to give you a small portion of the profits from the usage of your product in their commercial production if their profits reach over a certain base amount. There are other licensing options out there, but I think these 2 options might be best for you.
I've honestly never seen such polished and quickly produced models and settings and I think what you've created could easily revolutionize an entire sector of game/animation design if you made it available for people to use.
Honestly, you could easily scale this same model into even more themes beyond the medieval RPG stuff, and make even more things, like Sci-fi, Western, Horror, Cities, Office Spaces, Various World Cultures, Like Japanese, Chinese, Indian, ect. You could go ALL out with this and make this way bigger and more accessible if you brand it as more than just a RPG map maker. Honestly you struck gold here, and you might not even be aware of it....
I could easily see people flocking to this software to help them in creating their games and animations in softwares like Unity, Unreal, Godot, Blender, Maya, ect. You could make it so much easier for small creators to make amazing things quickly....
I'm...almost at a begging level here, please...make this a thing, make it possible to export completed scenes, and of course, protect yourselves by making commercial licenses so everybody can win from this amazing thing you've created for the world.
My money is literally dying to jump out of my pocket and into your hands if you can implement this...You guys are like... unaware of your own genius...and you've not even noticed it. Its cute you can be this brilliant and not actually see how expansive and useful the thing you've made is...Please, be aware, right here and right now... you guys are geniuses...now do something hyper great and change the world with your genius product please, and thank you.
That fact that this amazing program creates beautiful, stunning, 3D maps, easily while developing them, and then fails to utilize that same 3D map when actually using it is totally beyond me. I mean, how can this be? This is NOT some colossal undertaking. Create code that enables the user, in one simple step, to change their map, made up of many different Unity assets into a single Unity Assetbundle available for export. TTS users could then take that single asset and import it just as they do with any other asset. It also means the individual assets are PROTECTED as the end user would NOT be able to manipulate, copy, paste, or alter the individual assets, only the initial full map asset is copy-able.
And think of the additional sales generated by this feature! I personally know at least 30 TTS users that would purchase DA immediately to use when creating their TTRPG campaigns. And this is personally! There would have to be dozens if not hundreds more to do so if they were aware the possibility existed. Same goes for the DA side of things. From a TTS point of view, I am confident many DA users would get TTS just so they could play in the maps they created in full 3D.
This is really a no-brainer to such an extent that it is a bit shocking this ability wasn't on the table from the drawing board.
If the team is short on devs, sub this one out! A true, super pro, Unity professional or two, full time, could knock this out in a week or two.

Export as AssetBundle for Tabletop Simulator
Ivlev Raul Tiberiu
Those 3D maps would look awesome in Tabletop Simulator!
Would there be a way to export the map as Unity AssetBundle or at least in OBJ format, it would be so cool.
Even if we could have an Isometric view that was exportable. I've used this in Foundry for maps generated in Inkarnate and it works great - particularly for outdoors scenes.
I've started using Foundry as my virtual tabletop, and nothing would be better than to be able to export fully 3D scenes from DA into FVTT for my players to explore!
Another vote for 3D export. No clue what format, but like MANY others here have pointed out...FVTT module developer (TheRipper93) has an amazing 3D module. I truly believe that the future of VTT game play is going to be 3D, much in the fashion the maps look while creating them with Dungeon Alchemist...but they'll be fully 3D from the players perspective, can pan around, rotate the scene and it's all 3D. You guys really need a 3D export, and given the popularity of FoundryVTT, should collaborate with theripper93 on formats that he'd be able to use with his module 3D canvas.
If this happens, I'm all in and will purchase in a heartbeat! Otherwise, it looks great for 2D top down maps as is, but I already have an arsenal of 2D maps, more than I'll ever need.
For us who use Blender and 3D artistry, it would be absolutely amazing to be able to take the entire scene, put the player's characters and the big boss in it, and animate the battle, with cameras moving around the scene - sending it to the players as a way to relive the battle afterward.
It could also be an amazing way to introduce a setting - to move cameras around in, say, a noble manor's dinner hall or similar, as a video clip for the players.
Even animating a scene with something as simple as a camera panning past outside / inside it to create a video clip would be a great player introduction to a new setting, and could conceivably even be implemented *inside* of Dungeon Alchemist if Blender export is troublesome.
Most of my RP and DMing happens with a group in VRChat. I'd love to be able to export these maps as an FBX, pull them into Unity, and use them as maps in VR. I create worlds for it anyway... this would make it so much easier to pull together a functional map in a short time.
As an original backer I would love to see this happen. Foundry is the system of choice these days but high dpi 3d maps would make it amazing and make DA the tool of choice. the Canvas working module is pretty amazing.
Another one for Foundry VTT. There's a community contributor that's working on extending out Foundry to a true 3D tabletop experience, which if Dungeon Alchemist could collaborate, could be a "game changer". Just imagine navigating Dungeon Alchemist maps viewing all your intricate objects and textures the way your artists intended--from any vantage point within the actual VTT!
I would love this, 3d print for irl, progran a simple game for players to move around on the map in unity, play it on tabletop. This would enhance my experience Immensely
Ability to export as 3D would be incredible, that is after all the most glorious feature of this project: seeing your map in 3D - and its such a shame to lose that the minute we export for actual use. Even as static in the shorter term. I can see the case for not tying directly into TTS (given the paid model) but any 3d export can be piped into there via unity anyway.
The wish for a 3d export maybe used in tabletopsimulator on a custom board. Just an ideia. In TTS we can have a better view of the map , so this may also solve the 1st person view of the map.
Literally the point of DA is to use the exports with other paid software. The fact that it could export in 3d wouldn't be exclusive to any one paid mod of software suite.
I would very much like to have this option. There's a module for Foundry called 3D Canvas which I wanted to try for a long time, but making 3D models from scratch is daunting. Having this feature would probably mean I buy Dungeon Alchemist.
Very curious how big a piece of work this would be because it seems like it would be a massive value add to the tool to go from 2D export with 3D perspective, to fully 3D. Fountry is great but there's something about running a game in Tabletop Simulator that is just next level
I think it would be really cool if you could download the map (or maybe specific assets) as 3D Printable Parts so that they could then be printed and used during irl sessions.
I am SO TOTALLY behind this, you have no idea, especially if the entire map can be exported into something UNITY friendly, to then be built as an AssetBundle.
Would be nice to include some basic collisions too, if we do the 3D export.

I'd buy this program if this was possible.

Throwing in my support here! If I could set up scenes in this software and then export them that would be amazing for creating renders, especially since I could add my custom 3D characters or other models I have.
I know most things won't translate amazingly, but I would LOVE to 3d print my maps for my players

Yeah, Foundry VTT + Ripper's 3D Canvas would LOVE you for this feature.
William Bittner

Van Yakos
Yes please especially if we can export as a jpeg or png directly for those of us not using a vttt

It would be awesome if there was 3D export support for TheRipper's 3D Canvas on FoundryVTT.

Waiting on this feature before purchasing. This would literally be a game changer for 3D game developers.

But since all the textures are graphic files instead built into the objects the maps would be very smooth and boring
Thank you.
Bradley Antill
Needs to happen! It would be amazing to have these assets in 3D file formats.

any posability a OBJ or STL formatting or other file formatting export option could be made to be able to import maps into blender, DAZ or other 3d software. I see the awesome potential for this beyond DND map creation

This is so needed for the 3d canvass integration for foundryvtt!

I'd love to export entire scenes into Blender or UE5!

Rick Falkvinge

If I could export files in 3d for use with foundry 3d canvas I would buy this in a heartbeat.
You should buy it anyway. It's awesome!

I am SO TOTALLY behind this, you have no idea, especially if the entire map can be exported into something UNITY friendly, to then be built as an AssetBundle.
Would be nice to include some basic collisions too, if we do the 3D export.
